The Belenus Quartet was established in Basel in 2004 and is currently being coached by Isabel Charisius (Alban Berg Quartet) and Claudius Herrmann (Gringolts Quartett).
From 2009 to 2014, the Quartet studied under Isabel Charisius at the Lucerne School of Music. In addition, the Quartet studied under Walter Levin (LaSalle Quartet) and Oliver Wille (Kuss Quartet) at the Basel Music Academy in 2010/11. From 2008 to 2012, the Quartet was instructed by Stephan Goerner.
At the 9th International Franz Schubert and Modern Music Competition in Graz the Belenus Quartet was awarded 1st Prize, as well as the Audience Award.
As finalists of the chamber music competition of the Migros Culture Percentage 2013, the Quartet was included in the Concert Management of the Migros Culture Percentage. Furthermore, the Quartet won 1st Prize at the Interpretation Competition for Contemporary Music 2012 at the Zürich Conservatoire, as well as at the Kiwanis Competition 2012.
At the Hans Schaeuble Competition 2012 they were awarded 3rd Prize. In the years 2011, 2012 and 2013, they won the ORPHEUS Swiss Chamber Music Competition Prize. At the 1st International Sandor Vegh Competition 2012 in Budapest the Quartet received a special award for the Best Haydn Interpretation.
So far, the Belenus Quartet focused mainly on Switzerland and Germany. It’s repertoire ranges from early Haydn Quartets all the way to contemporary compositions.
The Belenus Quartet met Natalia Prishepenko during a ProQuartet Academy in August 2015, playing at the Luberon International String Quartet Festival (France).
