Alexandra Herbst, cello
Violinist Brendan Conway and cellist Alexandra Herbst have been performing together since 2014. Initially members of a string quartet, they have also performed together as piano Trio and string duo. They are currently both studying Chamber Music with Harald Schoneweg and Anthony Spiri at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne, Germany.
As members of Quartet Tito, Brendan and Alexandra competed in the Fischoff International Chamber Music Competition, the 21st Annual Leos Janacek Competition in Brno, Czech Republic, and the Plowman National Chamber Music Competition, where they were awarded the First Prize in Strings & Piano as well as the Audience Prize. The quartet worked extensively with violinists of the Vermeer Quartet Shmuel Ashkenasi and Mathias Tacke as well as Chicago Symphony Orchestra cellist Brant Taylor. In 2015 and 2016, they attended the Internationale Sommerakademie für Kammermusik Niedersachsen in Nordhorn, Germany where they studied under Eberhard Feltz, Rainer Schmidt, Alexander Gebert, Stefan Metz, and Oliver Wille.
In February of 2011, Brendan finished his Master’s in Music Degree in Cologne under Viktor Tretiakov after receiving his Bachelor of Music in 2008 with Vladimir Landsman at the Université de Montréal. Alexandra received her Master’s Degree from the Chicago College of Performing Arts in 2011, where she was a student of Chicago Symphony Orchestra cellist Richard Hirschl. She also had the opportunity to work with Patrick Jee, Tony Ross, Stephen Geber, Timothy Eddy, Richard Aaron, Eric Kim, and the Pacifica Quartet.
When they aren’t busy arguing over scores or wishing it wasn’t so cloudy in Cologne, Brendan and Alexandra enjoy trekking in the mountains and pushing their rice cooker to the limit!
