The ensemble was founded in 2007 by musiciens from the Warsaw Chopin University of Music. Three on four musicians are also principal chair members at Wroclaw National Philharmonic.

The quartet took part in many festivals in Europe and toured around Asia in 2013. It regularly collaborates with famous classical and jazz musicians.

Apart from the great string quartet repertoire, the quartet integrates pieces from ancient Polish composers (Lutosławski, Bacewicz, Szymanowski) but also contemporary Polish composers, leading to many premieres (Mykietyn, Markowicz…).

The members of the Lutoslawski Quartet are very open-minded, creating bridges between musical genres such as classical music and jazz music. The quartet is doing an artistic residency at the National Music Forum in Wroclaw.

In June 2015, the Lutoslawski Quartet participates in a ProQuartet training session with Ircam in Paris. They also perform during the ProQuartet Festival, Rencontres Musicales en Seine-et-Marne.
