Cellist, founder of the Alban Berg Quartet

Valentin Erben studied in Munich, in Vienna, in Paris with André Navarra and Josef Calvet and in Cincinnati with the LaSalle Quartet.
In 1970, he took part in the founding of the Alban Berg Quartet with which he gave concerts the world over until 2008.
Since then, Valentin Erben has developed his teaching activities. He teaches at the Musik Universität in Vienna, the Musikhochschule in Cologne, the Summer School in Hamburg, the Academia Chigiana in Sienna and, since 1995, in the ProQuartet-CEMC programme.
He is also invited to perform as a soloist and with other Quartets: the Belcea -with whom he has recorded the Schubert Quintet for EMI - the Arditti, Ysaye and Apollon Musagete. He also works with different actors.
Recently he has recorded all Beethoven Sonatas with the pianist Shani Diluka.
